Citywide 86’d is upon us again, and the competing restaurants have been selected.
Uchiko Austin hosted an evening of wine and hors d’oeuvres prior to a discussion panel featuring Philip Speer and Tyson Cole of Uchi and St. Philip, David Bull of Congress and Second Bar and Kitchen, Diane Dixon of Keeper Collection LLC, Cathleen Berdan of The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas, Carla Williams of The Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, and 2013’s Citywide 86’d champion, John Hajash.
Selected competitors will be competing for a chance to stage at a restaurant that will be determined in the coming months – giving them the opportunity to learn from some of the most esteemed members of the culinary world.
More than anything else, the panel stressed the importance of the competition was the camaraderie that it promotes amongst those competing. Citywide 86’d “builds morale – it builds creativity,” as stated by Congress’ own, David Bull.
