A new kind of ice cream parlor has been introduced to Austin in the Corazon building on East 6th. Street, created by owner Andrew Sabola and food stylist Meghan Erwin. The two Geminis (Gemelli means Gemini in Italian) journeyed to Italy to learn how to make gelato the right way, mastered the craft, and decided to share their knowledge with Austinites.
Made with fine ingredients, Gelateria Gemelli serves Italian gelato in a variety of fresh, unique flavors and controls every step of production. They pasteruize organic milk, cream, and sugar in the back of the house, meaning there is nothing in their recipes “your great, great grandmother wouldn’t recognize,” according to Sabola.
If that’s not incentive enough to give your ol’ pint of vanilla a rest, Gemelli is a firm believer in washing down your gelato with a nice Negroni or an amaro straight up, both of which are always available for accompaniment.
The beautiful architectural design of the space is the work of Kevin Stewart, whose modern, comfortable aesthetic appears in many of Austin’s favorite restaurants (Dai Due, The Peached Tortilla, Bribery Bakery).
