Delay your resolutions one more day with Citygram’s recommendations for New Year’s Day Brunch:
If you are looking to stay warm but still enjoy the beautiful day outside, South Austin Social Food Park behind Thom’s Market on Barton Springs is your spot. The highlight on the menu at former Qui chef, Chris Kerr’s, new spot is Casian Gumbo (above), an Eastern take on a cajun classic with jasmine rice crimini mushroom pureé, smoked sausage, mint, basil, lime-infused coconut milk, soft-boiled egg in a hearty pork and chicken broth. You’ve never had anything like it in your life. Then there’s those Chicken ‘n’ Waffles drizzled with ginger clove lemongrass syrup (lead image).

For what Gourdough’s claims as “The most important meal of the year,” enjoy signature hedonistic donut combos and complimentary black eyed peas and cabbage (for good luck in 2015!) We recommend you try the Dirty Plucker, a piping hot donut served with hand battered fried chicken, honey butter and maple icing. Your diet can wait until Jan. 2.

Wake up to the New Year with loud sounds, manmosas (served in a liter mug), bacon steak, sausage, and eggs on Rainey St. The Urban Achievers are playing 10AM-12:30PM, and Dead Capital Music Band is on 1-3PM.

French-Louisiana cafe and grocery, Epicerie, will be doing a special brunch, featuring specials like Good-Luck Eggs Benedict with black eyed peas, buttermilk biscuits, poached eggs, bacon, crème fraîche, and jalapenos. Their black-eyed peas are extra lucky- they’ve been cooking since the 27th of December. Be sure to pick up some artisan cheese and fine wine from their case while you’re there.

If you want to start 2015 with some heat, head south to El Alma for Huevos de Almuerzo (breakfast eggs), Jalapeños Picosos (pictured), a Bloody Maria (con Tequila!) and a Mimosa Feliz.

What’s better than brunch on New Year’s Day? Free creme-brulee french toast and no downtown traffic. Chez Zee is open early on New Year’s Day, armed and ready with mimosas and frozen mojitos – their pancakes are also something people often rave about.
