Walkable Houston: Where to Go in the MUSEUM DISTRICT and MONTROSE

Montrose is a quaint urban neighborhood filled with beautiful homes, stroll-worthy and botanical-filled streets, vintage shops and some of the best dining in the city.

The Museum District has some of the best museums in the state.

The Museum District, a walkable distance to the south, has plenty of hotel options and some of the best museums in the state. Together, the two are a winning combination. The rather small (but no less extraordinary) Menil Collection in Montrose is an absolute must for any visitors. Take a moment to lounge in Menil Park to discuss the Magrittes, Basquiats, and Twombleys you just witnessed before heading to the Rothko Chapel to contemplate the large, soothing purple and black paintings on each wall of the meditation space built for all. After a lunch break, head toward Westheimer to browse its shops like Moss, Settlement Goods & Design, DuO, The Guild Shop and more. A short walk to the Museum District puts you in the vicinity of the Museum of Fine Arts (which deserves an entire day at least), the Houston Zoo, and the Museum of Natural Science. Save money and skip lines by purchasing a City Pass, which allows access to all the above and more.
