It’s time for the weekend itinerary! For the week of August 14-20, Citygram recommends:
Check out one of Austin’s longest running music series at the Grove on Barton Springs Road for a free live music show, with $3.50 Ziegenbock drafts on special. This week, catch country band, Crooks, beginning at 8 pm.
TRACE’s third annual Ice Cream Social is this Saturday from 3-5pm and is free for the whole family and dogs! Taste summer creations from Executive Pastry Chef Angel Begaye such as chocolate toffee ice cream sandwich, strawberry and peach swirl sorbet push pops and brownie ice cream sundaes. The event benefits SafePlace, a local non-profit that works to end sexual and domestic violence. School supply donations are encouraged for SafePlace’s back-to-school drive for Austin area children. You can even suggest a flavor for Chef Begaye to create, and have the chance to win a $50 TRACE gift card, via their Facebook page.
If you’re a game enthusiast, you won’t want to miss this fest at the Palmer Events Center this weekend. Enjoy classic video games, retro game contests, costume contests and live video game music at this event, which supports Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. A $10 wristband will grant you unlimited access to all the weekend’s activities.
Hops & Grain founder, Josh Hare, will ride his bike 1,400 miles from Austin to Denver next month to raise money and awareness for prostate health and Hops & Grain is throwing a party to celebrate and fundraise. The party, which celebrates bicycle culture, goes from 11am-5pm on Sunday, with all welcome to join in on a 9am social ride from the brewery. For $30, you’ll get a custom pint galss, printed koozie, on-site printed event tee shirt by Fine Southern Gentlemen, and five tickets for beers. Get your tickets here.
This free ensemble by the Austin Symphony takes place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center terrace. This week’s ensemble will feature woodwind instruments, begining at 7:30pm. Picnics and blankets are encouraged for this family friendly event. This is the seond last event of the series for this summer event.
Austin’s favorite film and music series is coming to a close for the summer this Wednesday. Sound & Cinema will end with a bang with this week’s feature: “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” on a huge blowup screen with a musical tribute by The Octopus Project. Enjoy the various food trucks there, including: Frank, The Peached Tortilla, Yeti Frozen Custard, Garbo’s Maine Lobster, Whole Foods, Uncle Louie G’s and Boomerang’s. Cocktails, craft beers and non-alcoholic beverages are also available for sale on-site. It all begins at 6pm on the lawn at the Long Center’s City Terrace.
