Your weekend itinerary is here. For the week of July 31-August 6, Citygram recommends:
Zilker Hillside Theatre Productions will perform Rodger & Hammerstein’s Pulitzer Prize winning musical, ‘Oklahoma’. The performances run every Thursday-Sunday through August 16, at 8:30pm. Bring the whole family to this free event!
FREE admission; $15 to eat
Help Banger’s celebrate its second anniversary with lamb, goat, pig and venison tacos (starting at 8pm for $15), dozens of rare beers and four different live music acts, playing from 11 am until midnight. See the full menu, beer list and music lineup here.
This Saturday at Fiesta Gardens, you’ll have the chance to compete in ridiculous and, in some cases, unheard of contests such as: stand up paddleboard jousting, potato sack races, balloon toss, and Revenge of the Nerds style burping contest at the annual Fun, Fun, Fun Fest Aqua Olympics. The event is free and open to the public at Fiesta Gardens. Get there by 4pm to register if you want to participate.
The 2nd Street District of Austin is putting on a block party featuring food and wine pairings, local art and live music. Sample bites from Second Street’s restaurants, including: The Bonneville, Malaga, Searsucker, Finn & Porter and the W Hotel and more, with wines from Spicewood Vineyards, Becker Vineyards, Terlato Wines, and Hess Vineyard. Don your best white attire while you browse public art in the district’s many shops, then head to the after party at Trace (VIP ticket required). Proceeds of the event support the Austin Food & Wine Alliance.
Tickets starting at $25
Support local non-profit organizations while you dine at participating restaurants, bars and food trailers during Eat Out for Good, a promotion created by the founder of Austin Fashion Week. Participants will create special menus or promotional items, and then donate 10 percent of sales to a predetermined charity. Citygram recommends G’raj Mahal, Nova, Odd Duck, or Walton’s, but you can also view the full list of participants here.
There are just two Blues on the Green shows left this summer! Don’t miss Charlie Mars with Quiet Company this week. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, picnics, dogs and kids to this Austin summertime favorite.
