The Weekend Itinerary is here! For the week of November 6-12, Citygram recommends:
Today from 5pm until midnight Waller Creek (between 5th and 9th St) will transform into a walkable light show with visionary art installations. The five light installations designed by local architects will showcase Waller Creek in ways that highlight the inherent beauty and future transformation as seen in our Waller Creek feature. Start the night of art, music, and community at Easy Tiger for Happy Hour, then stay late for live music at Empire Control Room. Many other local businesses will be offering drink specials and music in celebration of the event.
This weekend, hundreds of Austin galleries, small businesses, homes and converted warehouses east of I-35 will be opening their doors to the public in the name of art. Yes, we’re talking about the thirteenth annual East Austin Studio Tour (E.A.S.T.) hosted by Big Medium, which is even bigger and better with over 400 exhibits happening on November 15-16 and November 22-23. Take a look at the exhibits you don’t want to miss this year with our handy EAST Austin Studio Tour Guide.
Party time! Canopy (916 Springdale Road, Building 2) is one of the most widely attended spaces during E.A.S.T. because of the number of spaces and galleries one can cover in just a matter of hours. Big Medium will host the opening reception of Barna Kantor’s solo exhibit and exhibiting the work of its staff. The public has the opportunity to visit neighboring spaces during Canopy’s extended hours from 6-8pm. Don’t miss A-list gallery winners Modern Rocks and Art.Science.Gallery.
Celebrate Austin’s home-brewing community at the Getaway Motor Club this Saturday from 6pm – 9pm. Attendees will enjoy unique small batch beers and kombuchas, food from Frank, a silent auction, and football viewing lounge. Home brew entrants will be judged by brewmasters from ABGB, Hops & Grain, Live Oak, and South Austin Brewery. You just might be the first to try Austin’s next great beer.
Take a trip to New Braunfels to enjoy the fall classic, Wurstfest. Come early, stay late, in this festival that will have you enjoying German beers, food, and plenty of polka dancing. This family-friendly event is always a great time.
What happens when art meets food? Find out during the PopUp Dinner at Justine’s Secret Dining House, where half a dozen chefs from Austin’s most notable restaurants (Amanda Turner of Odd Duck and Clinton Kendall of Qui will be represented) are coming together to serve food on unique vessels produced by Local makers Keith Kreeger, Michal McCarthy, Ryan McKerley and Abigail Murray.
