“We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.”
Principal, McCray & Co.
As a culture, we often associate innovation with technology or advancements in medicine. I think about innovation a bit differently. I see innovation as building the future. We’re running out of resources – but our society views “new” as progress. In my design practice and in my life, I try to plan for the future by making a clear effort to use less, be responsible with what I do use, and recycling or up-cycling when possible. I try to keep fabrication, labor and product sourcing as close to home as I can. Innovation, to me, is about designing for the future: reducing our wants, working with what we have, and being happy with less.
